Walk #24 Latrigg

Distance
: 7 miles Time: 2.8hr (exc. stops) Total ascent: 446m

Sarah wasn’t up for walking, so I did a quick out-and-back from our campsite at Castlerigg Hall to Latrigg

Weather was much better than previous day – no wind and scattered sunshine. Made the familiar descent into Keswick and out the other side to where the trail begins. The signpost said ‘Skiddaw 4 miles’ and I was very tempted, but that was not my plan for the afternoon.

I wasn’t expecting much from Latrigg, but it was a really pleasant walk. A steady climb up through woodland emerging into more open country. The steady ascent around the back of Latrigg switches back and gently ushers you to the summit.

Plenty of people at the summit, including a large team of litter pickers with an astonishing amount of trash collected. The views are tremendous to say it’s one of the smaller fells.

I opted for a quicker descent, which was very steep but got me off the fell very efficiently. I was soon back in Keswick, where I bought cakes to take back up the hill with me.

I’ll have to come back to Latrigg with Sarah, but I won’t mind!
