Distance:6.5 miles Time: 5hr (inc. stops) Total ascent: 709m
Drove to Threlkeld and parked as soon as we found a suitable spot in the village. After a short walk on the road to the Blencathra field centre, we hit the trail. There were also a few spaces left in the parking area outside the field centre. If we come back, we’ll try that first!
Weather was dry, but we could see cloud descending on Helvellyn and rain to the east.
The ascent was slow and steady. Sarah was tired from previous days walking, but determined to reach the summit. The climbing was fairly easy, and it does afford amazing views of many fells to the south.
The walk along the top ridge was spectacular, and we saw numerous jets and other military aircraft on low level training far below us. At the summit of Hallsfell Top there was a cold wind blowing, so after the usual photos we began retracing our steps back to Threlkeld.

The walk down was easier, and the weather steadily improved as we descended. It wasn’t long before we arrived back at the car park, and drove into Keswick to celebrate another Wainwright with beer and fish & chips!

This brings our Wainwright totals to Sarah 24, Paul 42
