Walk #22 Hail fell on Hallin Fell

Distance: 3 miles Time: 2hr (exc. stops) Total ascent: 396m

An extremely wet weekend staying at Waterside House campsite meant no ambitious walks, so we opted to take the Ullswater Steamer from Pooley Bridge to Howtown, and tackle Hallin Fell.

I’d previously done this almost exactly a year ago, but Sarah hadn’t so it was a chance to catch up.

Drama!

The rain was drizzling down for most of the ascent, coming down harder as we neared the summit.

Wet windy and summit

It let up briefly for summit photos, and the surrounding landscape looked very dramatic – very different to the blue skies a year ago.

As we began the descent, we were pelted by a brief hail storm before the rain began to calm down. We dried off and warmed up in the tearoom before getting the steamer back to Pooley Bridge.

Spent the rest of the afternoon in the pub!

This brings our Wainwright totals to Sarah 26, Paul 43
